Although we are often asked, HiTech Sports has not supplied timber backboards with our systems for several years now.
This is because unfortunately timber backboards just don’t do a good job. They break down in the harsh climate we face, and they provide uneven ball rebound and bounce. They also have to have bolts attached to the front of the board for attachment which is another blemish meaning the surface is not flat.
The majority of our basketball systems utilise instead a 50 mm reinforced fibreglass system with heavy duty ribs for rigidity which is much more durable, or armoured glass when a transparent backboards are required.
We replace thousands of dollars worth of timber backboards every year, and encourage people to think about the life cycle cost benefits, as well as the superior playability of fibreglass systems.
